Christmas cards and puddings

OK, so perhaps I was being a little optimistic when on December 1st I wrote;

'I expect there should be a few blog posts coming up this month, as I'm likely to be surrounding myself with pretty items that I can't resist sharing with you.'

I did in fact surround myself with pretty things, but I haven't shared them on the blog. I had been unwell for most of the first half of December and very tired too, so left it until very late to make Christmas cards. Because of time restrictions I had to narrow down the list of people I wanted to give cards to as much as possible, but I couldn't bear to not make any at all. In the end, there were only 6. So that's why this handmade Christmas card post is appearing post-Christmas.

The fact that I had bought some green and red blank cards really helped to make this process quicker, as did the presence of cute Christmas scrapbook paper. It will be no surprise to regular readers that I opted for stitching onto card. Again.

The majority of my presents were wrapped in a last minute panic on Christmas Eve an Christmas morning (yes, I was that unorganised) and so the amount of thought that went into wrapping presents in previous years was  not replicated. Except for one wrapping project.

Someone close to me is a big fan of graph paper, so I decided that I would wrap their present in it. I spent quite a while drawing little Christmas puddings onto sheets of A4 and joining them together, but it was worth it.

I hope you had a truly wonderful Christmas.

Sunday, 1 December 2013

It's here at last, December 1st.
I have been looking forward to this day because now it's officially acceptable to feel Christmassy. These last few weeks I have found that I have been increasingly excited about the approaching festive season, I'm not quite sure what's happened to me, I'm like a small child.

Today I have been wearing this jumper because it's got 'Christmas' written on it. Like I say, super excited.

I think December is my favourite time of year. I love finding gifts for those who are important to me and wrapping them up neatly. What's particularly exciting this year is that I get to decorate my own home for the season.

I expect there should be a few blog posts coming up this month, as I'm likely to be surrounding myself with pretty items that I can't resist sharing with you.

I'm starting to think about my list of goals for 2013 and the new ones that I'll make for the coming year. Usually I find myself thinking that the year has gone by quickly and not much has changed, but 2013 has been an eventful one. There's been some tough decisions, but on reflection I have grown a lot and it could even have been the best yet. Surely it can only get better now that it's Decemeber? 'Tis the season to be jolly after all.

Ellespiration #4

Though I still read ELLE every month, it has been over a year since I wrote my last 'Ellespiration' post. I have got nearly a month behind with reading the issues, probably because of how much I've been reading blogs. The November issue will be out soon and I have only just begun reading the October one! Here's a look at what inspired me in the September issue.

I love these classic and feminine French style looks with a moody edge. Effortless and ladylike cool. Like an artist's muse. Basically, I want to be her.

With its hair and make up reminiscent of The Wedding Singer and heaps of attitude, this shoot makes me want to go hunting down my inner rebel inside a vintage shop.

I have been coveting the oversized boyfriend-fit wool coat for years now. As androgyny is a big theme for A/W 2013 there are just too many styles to choose from.

I love the way that this photo makes a casual boyish sweater feel very feminine using classic jewellery and polished nails.

As usual, I'm also inspired by the adverts too.

This Saint Laurent advert encompasses the way I would love to look every day if I could.

Ever since the advert that changed my mind about D&G I have loved almost every campaign. This is a picture of perfect elegance.

The little things...

I won some Mavala polishes in a competition. Mavala's cute little pots of polish give a great finish after one coat.

I finally took the plunge and got some blonde tips!

The first warm Starbucks of the Autumn.

And best of all, I spent the whole of last weekend in my hometown catching up with cousins that I absolutely adore but rarely see. Three of my cousins ran 10k for charity, all finishing in under an hour, and I met one of the Wigan Athletic players. Wigan is also home to the best pies on earth, no question.

30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge: A Reflection

Well, the 30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge was very challenging indeed! It was so hard to post every single day, even though it only needed to be a photo. Posting photos of myself on the blog is something I have been quite fearful of. This helped me to get over that a bit because I had to post some pictures of myself that I wasn't really happy with in order to avoid failing the challenge. However, whilst I like that it has pushed me to be braver and blog more frequently, I think the thing that it taught me most is quality over quantity. It has reminded me that it is perhaps better not to blog often if you aren't feeling particularly inspired or passionate about something. I don't want to be posting things half-heartedly onto the bloggersphere just so that there are less days between entries, then look back and cringe. So forgive me if I wait a little while between posts, it will be because I don't want to blog unless It's because I have something I want to say or show.

I am still working on the Fat Mum Slim August Photo a Day challenge at the moment too, if you don't want to wait until the end of the month to see the round-up then you can follow me on Twitter @KatiesCreative I'm usually tweeting about something or other most days lately.

How do you feel about blog challenges?

Do you have a favourite photo from my 30 Days?

Are you comfortable about posting photos of yourself?

August: Photo a Day

Here's a round-up of my August photo-a-day challenge results! I found this much easier and more enjoyable than the 30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge. That is largely down to the fact that none of the photos had to be of myself, so I wasn't thrown out of my comfort zone quite as much. It was still challenging to remember and find time every day, but I loved the treasure-hunt element that the prompts bring. I used the Fat Mum Slim prompt list, there is a new one every month and I recommend giving it a try.

1. Something beginning with N
A magnetic Cath Kidson notepad that my friend bought for my birthday.

2. Incomplete
My bathroom decor (so far).

3. Skyline
I was unable to catch one on the 3rd, but here's one I snapped later in the month.

4. Fresh
Basil. Smells and tastes amazing.

5. Early
When the light peers through the blinds but you aren't ready to let it in.

6. This means a lot to me
I only had a few years with one of my Grandads. This key ring is very special to me because it used to belong to him and it has a photo of a young me inside it.

7. A sign

8. Peek-a-Boo

9. 2 o'clock
Walking Milo.

10. Beverage
Sometimes this is exactly what I need. Often, in fact.

11. I love doing this!
Eating Almonds! I've actually become pretty hooked on them.

12. Macro

13. Fast
Nothing is as fast as time sometimes.

14. Trash

15. The best
...things in life are free.

16. Cooking
Making a sandwich was the closest I came on the 16th.

17. Exercise

18. Someone you spoke to today

19. Lost

20. Stairs
Quickly snapped post-rehearsal.

21. Slow
An outfit for a slow day.

22. A room
Post cake party.

23. Yellow

24. In the background
On the 24th I was at a hen party, the bride is in the background.

25. Culture
Window gardens along the Thames on the Southbank.

26. Entrance

27. 10 minutes from home
My parents live about 10 minutes away from my house, I called over for a few hours and made a crumble with the blackberries from their garden. It was delicious.

28. Corridor
Taken after my first ever attempt at acting for audio. I hope it turns out sounding OK!

29. Lucky
Photos from Glastonbury Festival 2005. Our party were very lucky that this flooding didn't travel another few metres.

30. Cluttered

31. Dangerous
If you follow the blog, you may have noticed I love Wigan Athletic. I loved even more knowing they beat the local team last weekend! I'm looking forward to travelling up to Wigan this weekend to see family.

August was a pretty relaxing month for me, I hope you found some moments to cherish too.
