Homemade cards (#4)

Here's a happy birthday card for my cousin and a congrats on your baby boy card for ex-colleagues. The baby boy one was an adaption of the design which I made for some friends when they had their second little girl Emily (who I just happen to be babysitting as I write this!). The birthday card for my cousin continued the stitching on card theme which has become a favourite with me. The third card was for the 21st birthday of Ryan, my sort of unofficially adopted little brother, based on the fact that he always says 'oh my days'.

Lady Brunette

Brunette by katie311 on Polyvore

I've been thinking a lot lately about how I love being a natural brunette, but that sometimes I just don't feel quite brunette enough. I'm wondering if I should go for something similar to my hair colour, but just a little richer. Maybe even a touch of mahogany. Bizarrely, coloured hair often looks a but shinier and healthier, and I could perhaps do with a bit of that. A little fake, but not very. Just enhancing what's already there.

Secret Santa

 Hello, sorry it's been a while. I've just finished working on a little project - organising the family Secret Santa. You may remember last year I spoke about the family Secret Santa that we do every year, sharing my wrapping and inspiration with you. The wrapped Secret Santa from last year included a tag for the present.
This year I am organising the Secret Santa. Here are some snaps of the process.

After visiting my grandparents and looking at their old photograph albums, I came up with this idea for the tags. I sought out photos of each member of the family, preferably taken at Christmas, to use on the tags. I stitched them onto card, using a Christmassy colour palette. I think I'm becoming a little obsessed with stitching onto card lately! The photos range from childhoods to recent. I love the fact that people will receive the tag for their Secret Santa recipient, perhaps have a rush of nostalgia remembering when that person looked that way or be surprised because its a photo they've never seen or they never knew that person used to look that way! What I love even more is that after that initial reaction, they will realise that their tag is going to have a photograph on them too, and they won't find out what it is until our meal on Boxing Day!

Toad in the Hole

Yesterday I made toad in the hole for the first time and it was great fun. I followed a Jamie Oliver recipe for toad in the hole with onion gravy, which can be found here;
It was so easy and tasted delicious. I would use the batter mix again for Yorkshire puddings and certainly use the onion gravy. Yum yum!

This was also my first attempt to follow a recipe from an iPhone, which worked just fine as it wasn't a messy process.

I'd definitely recommend the recipe, and any recipe by Jamie Oliver really!
