Dapper Wraps

Hello :)

I'm really starting to get into the festive mood now!
One thing that I really enjoy is wrapping presents.
Especially a present in a box, so that the wrapping can be neat.

I'm looking forward to wrapping christmas presents.
I have been buying baubles from charity shops to use in my wrapping.
I thought I'd share with you some of my current inspiration......

I was surprised to find that the nicest examples of wrapping  I came across when looking for inspiration were mostly using plain brown or white paper.
Every year I meet with all of my mum's side of the family on Boxing day.
It's now tradition that the adults among us take part in a secret santa.
This year we have been told that our secret santa item must be wrapped in brown paper or newspaper.
In which case, I am very much inspired!

I hope you're having a lovely week :) xx

Pretty Florals or Black Basics?

I adore the patterns seen at the Victoria and Albert museum, aka. The V&A.
The shop is an attraction in itself.
It's a treasure trove for any lovers of art, craft, design or fashion.

About a week ago I discovered this....

Beautiful, isn't it?
GORGEOUS
WANT IT
Those were my first thoughts.
Ah, but I bet it'll be expensive.....
Only £12?
I have to have it!

But then another thought occurred to me.
Faced with the idea of an alternative case, I realized I actually quite like my plain Blackberry.
It's sensible, smart, professional.
It's 'Hey, I'm grown up now. I mean business'.
It's sort of chic.
I could have had a pink or purple cover, but I chose black for a reason.

This isn't pink or purple though is it?
Its a work of art!

Still, I had my reservations so I held back.
Tonight, I went looking for it online.
IT'S OUT OF STOCK!
Obviously, that means I really want it now.
But whilst I have a little time to reflect.....

What do you guys think?
Is black the best option because it screams young urban professional?
Or is it just boring because it's like everyone else's (can be confusing)?
Is the flowery cover too girly and therefore childish?
Or is it just stylish, individual and says a little something about my personal taste?

Animal Inspiration

I have a thick cotton, roll neck, long sleeved tan jumper sitting in my bedroom drawer.
I bought it with an idea in mind.
I'm yet to find the moment to actually make the idea happen.
But I've got some fabric.
I just need one more patterned piece in the right colours.

Hopefully I will get around to it soon, before the season is through!
For now, here is some of my inspiration.

So Exciting! + facts about me (not quite so exciting)...

So I am very excited because I have received these tags from B. in the know. We follow each other's blogs. Her blog is lovely - so sentimental and I don't know how she continues to consistently find such beautiful pictures. Take a look here

Anyway, this means I am supposed to share 10 facts about myself and then tag 10 bloggers that I like.
Here goes....

1. I don't post as often as I would like, partly because I spend so much time browsing through other blogs beforehand that my eyes hurt and I don't have the energy to write one!

2. In my 23 years I have lived in the north, the south and the middle of England.
That's in 9 different houses / halls, and I attended 6 different schools / colleges + nursery + university.

3. I nearly drowned when I was 12 at Bantham Beach in Devon
I went bodyboarding. I had never been a strong swimmer. It was always 'Katie, I saw you put your foot down half way, go back and do it again' in swimming at school.
My younger cousin was a really strong swimmer, but when the current turns in Devon grown men struggle to fight it. A lifeguard came for him and told me to wait and try to get closer to the rocks. The rocks were way too far. I seemed to be waiting for hours. I was terrified and prayed really hard. Eventually I gave up, that was it, I was a goner. I just prayed that it wouldn't be too horrible and closed my eyes tight. Then I bumped into a rock which wasn't there beforehand.

4. My grandad was banned from B&Q for complaining about being overcharged. Because he said the store assistant denying the overpricing was getting his knickers in a twist. It was in the national papers. They made him out to be really miserable, so it's probably a good thing that they never went ahead with the TV documentary.

5.When I was in Peter Pan in about 1997 despite only playing a talking star with 2 lines (one of which was shared with about 10 others) I got so into the role that I had to keep telling myself that Peter Pan wasn't real for months afterwards. (I took my acting very seriously!)

6. Possibly the best Valentine's card ever, once given to me by a young boy...
And yes, that is the original, because how could you throw away something that funny?
If your me, you pretty much don't throw away anything. That can be fact 6 1/2.

7. I once broke into a Manchester car park to get the family car which was locked inside.
It was quite a clever guess if I do say so myself. My little brother was amazed and told me all the way home I should work for MI5.

8. Because I'm quite slim people often assume otherwise, but i have a HUGE appetite.
I get really really full, and then half an hour later I'm hungry again.
My boyfriend says I could be on Man Vs Food (as a joke, of course).

9. I spend far too much time thinking about what I could make and bake, and hardly any time actually doing it. I need to work on that.

10. I once played Joseph in a Christmas nativity (as far as I was concerned, that was a main part up for grabs!)

And so, time to give these awards to 10 of my favourite / most inspiring bloggers....

Random act of kindness

I work with a lovely lively Brazilian lady called Analia.
She often pops into the office and compliments us and shares her cheery mood with us.
She makes us tea and we give her cakes and biscuits.

Today, when I arrived at work, Analia was in the car park.
She jumped out of the car, mid hands-free phone call, to give me this cute little package.
'It's a RAOK' she said 'A random act of kindness'
What a wonderful start to a day!

It sat on my desk wrapped until lunch time and i admired the pretty simplicity of the wrapping. I love the thin papery twine and the heart. It has inspired me too because I have often made heart tags and made a hole in the centre, but having the hole at the side looks prettier.

Then at lunch time, i discovered what was waiting inside.....

An adorable knitted phone cosy!
AND it has a pretty stripy fabric lining :)
PLUS my Blackberry fits just right!

The end of my day at the office ended pretty badly when I found I was the only one left in the building and had to lock up and set the alarm for the first time.
My first attempt was unsuccessful and very noisy, followed by approx 20mins of desperately trying to re-open the door that I mustn't have locked quick enough when the key wouldn't turn.
By the time I had finally locked up without an alarm sounding I was not a happy bunny.

Thank goodness that on the (much later than planned :s) bus I was able to look at my phone and think
'Aww, didn't the day start well though? What a lovely thing to do'

Thanks Analia!

Ralph Lauren = Welcoming Autumn

First of all, sorry it's been aaaaaages since my last post, I must improve!

Early in the week when babysitting for a friend and flicking through Elle I made a note of collections, new designers and bloggers that caught my interest to look up at a later date. Yesterday was that later date, on which I was inspired by Ralph Lauren's Autumn/Winter collection.
I do enjoy looking at a Ralph Lauren campaign shoots, I love their aesthetic season after season,
Always just looking mind.....
But being inspired! :)

What I love about the photo's I found yesterday is how soft floaty floral dresses are brought into winter. I have already been planning to wrap a chunky cable knit cardigan around one of my favourite floral dresses with dark tights and boots as the weather gets colder, ever since seeing a mannequin in a New Look window (hey, these things stick with me, what can I say?)!

Ralph Lauren has officially got me excited about autumn.
I say autumn, not winter as I know it will soon get too cold for a dress and tights.
That is why we must embrace Autumn whilst we can!
If you, like me, are to whimpy and too sensitive to the cold to wear looks like this through winter and will be sporting leggings and jeans every day when it gets to Christmas time, enjoy autumn whilst it lasts!

Ellespiration

I love ELLE magazine.
It's as fashionable, glossy and artistic as Vogue but feels much more down to earth.
AND they support interns, upcoming designers and bloggers.
Flicking through the pages of ELLE is so inspiring.
I know there's a lot of adverts - but they are arty, inspiring adverts.
I have told myself that tonight I must blog, because I have neglected the blogging world somewhat since I've been looking at a computer all day every day at work which makes me not want to look at a screen all evening too.
Also, right now I feel poorly. I hope it's going to go away soon :(
So, I write this post partly, I'll admit, because it doesn't require lots of typing and linking up, but also because I have been thinking about discussing my love of ELLE with you avec pictures for some time.
So, without further ado, some recent inspiration from my good friend the lovely ELLE magazine...

Mirror Cosy

I have a little craft to share with you. I went to France well over a year ago and visited Monet's garden at Giverney (where the water lily pond and the green bridges are). There I bought this lovely little mirror...

However I had nothing to keep it from getting scratched inside my bag. For a long while it travelled in my bag wrapped in the paper bag it came in. Unfolding a worn paper bag was not the most ladylike way to reveal my pretty mirror to everyone on the bus. Didn't really do it justice.

I finally got around to making a cute little cosy out of an odd sock. The sewing's a little wonky and it's clear the sock is worn but I think that's kind of endearing. It was quick to make and cost me nothing.

Hair

Dear Friends,

Sorry it's been over a week since my last post. I've been quite tired of late, but there are many things that I wish too blog about and I will have new posts shortly!

This evening I have had my hair cut. For a little while now I have found 60's fashion really interesting. I had a fringe quite a while ago and let it grow out, I can never decide whether or not to have a fringe put back in my hair or not in such circumstances - does anyone else have this dilemma? Perhaps you're not all as indecisive as me! Anyway, this time I went with the fringe, perhaps I will be brave enough to post it, perhaps not, but I will leave you with some of my inspiration from these 60s beauties....

Pretty is the Pest

On Friday evening I was on a train for little under 3 hours on my way to Liverpool to see my boyfriend.

I often make this journey. Things often get loud and/or busy at Sheffield and the train waits for a while in the station. Stockport is where I first start to feel I am really in the north of the country, Manchester inspires me, Warrington reminds me of childhood trips to the pictures, and at Liverpool South Parkway I'm excited that my boyfriend is only one stop away.

This time I noticed something new.
As a gazed out of the window I noticed vibrant purple flowers along the sides of the track and the surrounding banks. They crop up again and again.

After studying them I thought they looked a lot like nettles.
Nettles? Those things that look so unpleasant in your garden? Those things that left you crying in feilds as a child whilst your mum searched for a dockleaf? When left to thier own devices, to grow as they please along the trainlines, can they become something beautiful?

I have done a little google search and found the pictures that you see on this post (various sources), which are of Purple Loosestrife's (or Lythrum Salicaria), which look just like those roadside beauties.

And for you craft lovers, here is another lovely flower that I came across today, at Kiki Creates.

Blue and Tan

I think perhaps I've developed a bit of an obsession with blue and tan. Sometimes on thier own, often together. Do you ever find that when you go shopping it's always similar items that catch your eye? Do you ever find a lot of those things are just a nicer version of what you already have? Lots of clothes I love in shops, love on others and love to wear are shades of these two colours.

Also, a few items I have been wanting for a while and shopping for the perfect find are;

* A new pair of tan trousers (I have one very light pair, I want a deeper tan pair with better tailoring).
* A patent tan handbag
* A tan coloured patterned silk neckerchief

and recently I've been wanting some navy trousers too (there's a pair in Tesco I have my eye on that comes with a tan belt!)

These things I know would go well with outfits I have, but should I impose a temporary ban on blue and tan?? Here are a few examples of how I've been combining these colours in my wardrobe (seriously, there could be a lot more).

Fruity Yoghurt Pots

I love food.
I love nicely presented food.
I love knowing what I'm eating is really fresh because I've just picked it out of my garden and washed it.
Here is a little dessert a whipped up a few weekends ago when having a BBQ with family and friends.
Raspberries and a few blackcurrants picked from the garden and washed. Shop bought strawberries and natural yoghurt. Plus, a mint leaf in each -picked straight from the garden of course :)
Speedy. Summery. Simple.

As Promised - Viewing your Blogs.

Hello wonderful followers.

A little while ago I promised that once I reached 21 followers I would look at the first post from each of your blogs and pick a favourite. Well finally I have.

It's been fun to have a look around all your blogs. When I get a new follower I usually take a look at their blog and often, as you may have found, I leave a comment too.

One of the reasons it has taken me a little while to write this is that I can't see my followers in my web browser, I have had to go on a mac for a change so that I can use Safari to view them. Blogger is being a bit strange for me lately, as I mentioned in a previous post I've been unable to post comments sometimes. Quite a few of your profiles said that you don't have a blog. Maybe you don't all have a blog, but I'm sure that there must be some of you who's blog just isn't showing up.

The blogs I read were....

Dance Little Liar - Fifteen
A Cup of Sparkle - Lemonade Summer Jewelry
Little Projects in Style - A day for lovin' and movin'
Methods of Modern Love - AdSlag: Talk Talk 2011
Rebecca.Revisited - Graduation
Craftberry Bush - DIY Mason Jar, vase or sconce, the choice is yours...
Pieced Pastimes - The true meaning of memorial day
A Pocketful of Blue - Decorating for the birds
Viva Luxury - Summer Sunsets
Diary of Mom and Son - Taking a bite out of the big apple
Of the Refrigerator Door - Growing in the Garden
Treacle and Ink - Playing Tourist

If you are a follower of Katie's Creative and you have a blog that isn't on this list, leave me a comment with a link and I will take a look and may feature it on a later post.

So, Fifteen was very sweet, I adore pink roses and all the food looks so tasty! This advert is cute and I agree with Andrew's thoughts on it. I'm loving the new blog header at Rebecca Revisited. Playing Tourist at Treacle and Ink is another reminder that I need to visit Jenni in Brighton! I enjoyed reading about Debbie's Garden at On the refrigerator door, as you may have seen I've been gardening too and I understand that excitement of getting something to eat straight out of your garden that's just right. A while ago a post of hers about her planter inspiration inspired me too and I am planning on creating some soon, watch this space!

But my favourite?

I have chosen Summer Sunsets at Viva luxury

Annabelle is beautiful and I love this sweater look. Most of all I love the selection of bracelets which are just perfect for the beach and compliment the jumper. Her surroundings are just as pretty, I'd love to be on that beach right now!

Isle of Wight Photos

Over the weekend I got to see my Isle of Wight photographs.
I could have asked my boyfriend to send me the digital version, but I waited so that I could open a paper sleeve to see and feel the photographs in my hands. It was nostalgic and very satisfying. Digital is easier and cheaper, but you miss out on the physical presence of photographs and the excitement of never knowing quite how they will turn out. Here's a few....
